Simon Thornton may have died in 1873, but each October Hearthside House keeps his memory alive by presenting 19th century Victorian mourning customs. Experience all of the traditions and superstitions embraced by Victorians, who viewed the pageantry of death as a necessary part of life.
Guided tour throughout each room as the journey from the moment of death to the wake is explored. Tour size is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance. Docents in period mourning attire provide a tour through this extensive exhibit that in displayed in every room of the house.
Note: The 4-7pm twilight tours (select dates) are low-light guided tours with dim lighting for for ambience. As such, the dimly lit tours are not recommended for those with poor vision in those conditions. For well-lighted tours, seek out the event dates with early afternoon hours.
