Phantoms by Firelight returns to Old Sturbridge Village for 12 nights this Fall…and it’s bigger than ever! Step into the firelit shadows of history and uncover its eerie tales. Learn about the history of Halloween traditions, play games, find treats, and listen to ghost stories by the bonfire. Plus, be entertained by the spectacle of mesmerizing performances including fire breathing and flame spinning, as well as acrobats flying high over the Village with their vampire-like ways. From specters to secrets, explore history’s haunted mysteries.

Will you escape the grim reaper lurking above the shadows, or will you be trapped in the labyrinth forever? There is only one way in… and only one way out.
Spooky Stories at the Bonfire
Gather ‘Round the Fire for Chilling Tales! As the fire crackles and sparks fly into the inky sky, gather close for tales of the past. Our clever storytellers will share legends of New England’s history, stories of eerie encounters, and ghastly happenings in nearby towns. These family-friendly tales will send a shiver down your spine!
A Night of Spectacles
Prepare to Be Blown Away and Beguiled! The night sky ignites with dazzling fire-breathing acts and death-defying performances that will leave you awestruck. Stay until the final hour—you won’t want to miss the grand finale that will leave you talking about it long after the night is over.
Faces of Tragedy
Ghosts (not) in the Graveyard. On display are four otherworldly portraits. Each painting reveals a beautiful face, yet behind each gaze lies a tragic and twisted tale from a bygone era. Listen closely as their stories are whispered into the night, and see if you can spot the phantoms that still linger in the shadows.
History Unveiled
Step into the Shadows of the Past. Witness our cabinetmaker as he assembles a final resting place—more than just a bed, it’s a coffin crafted with care for those whose time has come. Inside the blacksmith’s shop, sparks fly as they forge tools as grim as they are necessary. Experience the somber and chilling atmosphere of an 1830s wake. Be mesmerized by the intricate weave of human hair as strands are crafted into flowers in memory of the dearly departed. Plus, discover the unusual remedies used to balance the body’s humors and cure disease before delving into the origins of Jack-o-Lanterns and Halloween traditions
The Wicked Games Alley
Step Right Up and Tempt Fate! Challenge your courage and skill at our eerie carnival games. Test your aim with the Pumpkin Ring Toss or solve mind-bending puzzles left by phantom magicians. Beware—these games have a sinister twist, and fortune favors only the bold.
Clues & Candy
The Village’s version of trick-or-treat! Set out on a hunt across the Village! Unravel riddles and collect stamps at multiple locations to piece together a ghostly image. Finish the card and be rewarded with a treasure trove of sweet treats. It’s Halloween fun for souls young and old!
Taste the Dark Side
When hunger strikes, visit the Bullard Tavern or the Ox & Yoke Café for a fantastic feast created just for Phantoms by Firelight. Indulge in hearty soups, tantalizing wraps, and sweet and savory snacks. Sip on spine-chilling drinks like the Green Goblin or warm yourself with a cup of hot apple cider.
