Cronenberg’s early masterpiece features Samantha Eggar as Nola, a woman under the care of a controversial psychotherapist (Reed) whose ‘psychoplasmic’ method encourages patients to physically embody their various traumas. Nola’s issues are so extreme, that she ‘births’ a brood of homicidal goblins that take bloody revenge for any slight against their ‘mother.’
