"Knit One Stab Two" & "Crochet is Sick!" Horror Documentary Film discussion with Dr. Alison Peirse

This essay film examines the representation of knitters and knitting, in over sixty horror films made by women, from the 1920s - 2020s, across South America, Europe, North America and East Asia.

In this film Dr. Peirse asks, what happens when the woman knits in a horror film? What might the representation of knitting tell us about social and cultural expectations around gender, genre and age? We draw on the potential for videographic work to disrupt stereotyped representations of aging women across over a century of horror cinema.

This is a special event presented as part of the Ax Wound Film Festival taking place over the weekend of September 22 - 24, 2023, at the iconic Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA. This rare cinematic experience brings the community a collection of new horror films exclusively written and directed by transgender folks, nonbinary individuals, and cisgender women from across the globe.
